Payment processors
Stripe and PayPal are far more straightforward with a US entity holding an EIN. For many countries it is the difference between being accepted and not.
Most of the people we form companies for are selling physical products - Amazon FBA, Shopify, Etsy, or their own store - from outside the United States. The obstacle is almost never the selling. It is everything the platforms ask for before they will let you take the money.
Why sellers outside the US form a US company
Stripe and PayPal are far more straightforward with a US entity holding an EIN. For many countries it is the difference between being accepted and not.
Amazon and other marketplaces ask for tax identification. An EIN answers that cleanly.
A US business identity reads differently to an American buyer than an unfamiliar overseas one.
An LLC puts the business in its own name rather than yours personally.

The part most sellers get wrong
The obligations that follow are where sellers get caught out, usually a year later when it is expensive to fix.
Every foreign-owned single-member LLC must file IRS Form 5472 with a pro-forma 1120 each year for the previous calendar year, whether or not it traded, and whether it was formed in January or November. Penalties start at $25,000.
If you hold stock in US warehouses, including Amazon FBA, you may create a sales tax obligation in those states. That is separate from what we do and you should take advice on it.
A US LLC does not usually remove your tax obligations where you live. Take local advice.

Based on a Wyoming LLC for a founder outside the US. Where a provider does not cover the $100 Wyoming state filing fee, it has been added so the totals compare like for like. Ongoing cost for 1dayein is the registered agent and US address renewal at $50 a year. Competitor pricing is taken from their published rates in August 2026 and is subject to change — please check their current pricing before deciding.
What year two actually costs. The $50 above covers your registered agent and US business address. Every foreign-owned LLC must also file IRS Form 5472 with a pro-forma 1120 each year by 15 April, and your state requires an annual report — $200 and $150 bought separately, or $350 a year for the Compliance Plan covering everything. We would rather you knew that now than at renewal.
