Starting a US LLC from Morocco
Francis Webb, Founder, 1 Day EIN LLC
A founder in Casablanca or Rabat can own a US LLC outright. No US visa, no US partner, no Social Security Number — a Moroccan resident can be the sole owner of a Wyoming or Colorado LLC, obtain its EIN, and run US-dollar business through it. For Moroccan agencies, e-commerce sellers and independent consultants invoicing US and European clients, that package — a US entity, a US tax ID, dollar banking — is the practical reason this page gets read.
What follows is the honest version of each step from Morocco specifically: what works, in what order, and where applications actually fail.
Step one: the company
Nothing about Moroccan residence restricts forming the LLC. You choose a state — Wyoming or Colorado, compared honestly — and the company can exist within days. Neither state's formation filing asks for the names of the LLC's members, and no step requires you to travel, notarise documents in the US, or hold any US status.
What you will need from the Moroccan side is unremarkable: your passport details for identity checks at later steps (banking above all), and an address. One planning note: the address you give counterparties matters more than founders expect — see the banking section.
Step two: the EIN, without an SSN
The EIN is the company's federal tax number, and everything commercial waits behind it — banking, payment processors, marketplace registrations. A non-US owner with no SSN or ITIN can obtain one; the how, and why timelines across the market run from days to many weeks, is covered in how to get an EIN without an SSN or ITIN.
Step three: banking — where Morocco's answer is the good one
This is where country actually matters, and Morocco's position is worth stating precisely.
Mercury — the default US banking choice for non-resident founders — publishes a list of countries whose residents it will not onboard. The restriction is, in Mercury's words, "based on your country of residence, not your citizenship or nationality." Morocco does not appear on that list — Mercury's prohibited-countries page, read 18 September 2026. Several neighbouring markets do appear, which is why this page and its counterpart for founders in listed countries exist separately.
Read that for what it is and no more: a Moroccan resident is not excluded by policy. It is not an approval — every application is assessed individually, and no formation company can promise you any bank's decision. What actually sinks eligible applications is avoidable: address problems (a registered agent's address given as your principal place of business — banks distinguish these), vague business descriptions, and inconsistencies between the application and the formation documents. The full picture — requirements, the address rule, and the alternatives if Mercury declines — is in can a non-resident open a US business bank account?
Mercury updates its list without publishing a revision date, so check the linked page yourself the week you apply.
Step four: the year after
The company you formed has a small annual calendar — a registered agent at all times, a state report once a year, and a federal information filing where it applies. Whether your LLC has to file depends on its ownership and on the transactions it had during the year. The whole calendar, with self-service costs, is in the single-member LLC compliance year.
The honest summary for a Moroccan founder
Everything on this path is open to you, including the mainstream banking route — which, as the counterpart page shows, is not something every country can say. The failure modes from Morocco are ordinary ones: applications rushed before the EIN exists, addresses used for purposes they cannot serve, and companies formed and then left uncompliant. All three are avoidable by doing the steps in the order above.
If you want the formation step done for you: Complete LLC Registration + EIN is $399 all in for Wyoming or Colorado — state and filing fees included, and the EIN in one business day (Mon–Fri) once formation completes. If your company is not formed and your EIN not issued within 72 hours of us having everything we need from you, you get all of your money back, including the state filing fee we have already paid; the one exception is a state office or the IRS being closed or unavailable — full terms. Start at /start-llc.
This page is general information, not legal, tax or immigration advice, and no statement here guarantees any bank's or agency's decision on your application. Mercury's list was read on the date shown; confirm it on Mercury's own page before applying. Next quarterly re-check: 1 December 2026.
